The second issue explores further basic drawing techniques and how to practise them and explains how to establish and develop hatching and crosshatching into more detailed tones and textures, all important for turning a line drawing into a convincing illusion of real life.
"Handling the Tools" goes into the exact specifics on the handling, treatment and general use of your drawing tools and materials.  There's an article devoted to training yourself  to work with and see past ever present optical and proportional illusions as well as a couple of articles on the particular importance of the beginning and ending of a drawing and how and why the two ends of a drawing project are quite different to the rest of the process, and how to finish, fix, and prepare a fine art drawing for framing.
This issue also has a comprehensive four part article which takes you from the very beginning of a drawing project right through to the most complex intricacies of Brett's own more advanced techniques in "Fudging and Squirling- parts 1-4", both of which are most definitely the core techniques of all successfully drawn hyper-realistic illusion, as well as the 3-part cover feature taking you through the entire process of creating a particular drawing from inception to completion with two of the most difficult subjects to draw well, roses and hands.
There's also philosophical articles about how to find your place in the art world, how to survive as a working artist and a continuation of the biographical journey started in Vol. 1 with "The Sea Stirs".
